A Georgia high school coach was suspended after defending himself and restrained a student who had a loaded weapon in school.

Miller stated that on August 20, the school’s principal summoned him to her office in response to reports of students at the school with firearms.

“During that process, we located guns.” Miller told Fox 5 that “we saved lives.”

Miller encountered one female student in front of police officers. Miller and the police had no idea the student, who was described as confrontational and hostile by witnesses, had a gun at the time of the altercation.

According to News 19, the conflict escalated when the student hit Miller with a stapler. Miller then snatched the girl up and held her down until officers arrived and arrested her.

Miller was originally fired, but the school district later changed the ruling to a suspension that has lasted months, according to News 19.

“The district administration does not support Mr. Miller’s actions relating to this event and believes his conduct failed to meet the professional expectations it has for employees. Mr. Miller inappropriately intervened in a student matter being handled by school administrators and law enforcement. Mr. Miller acted outside of the scope of his authority and responsibilities,” Fulton County Schools said in a statement to Fox News Digital on Thursday.

“Mr. Miller’s conduct resulted in an escalation of a physical altercation with a student in crisis, which conflicts with district expectations to deescalate in these types of situations. Mr. Miller has not exhausted his due process rights at this time and remains on full, paid administrative leave.”

Miller’s attorney urged school districts to assist teachers who are “put in terribly dangerous situations.”

“Those teachers are our first line of defense against guns and other types of terrible violence that happens in schools,” Miller’s attorney stated.
