According to police, a mother shot and killed her teenage son Thursday morning before pulling the trigger on herself.

The murder-suicide occurred on Bay Crest Court near Loganville, according to Gwinnett County Police.

According to authorities, the mother gunned down her son and then committed suicide. The son was rushed to the hospital, where he died a short time later.

Nicole Strother, 52, has been identified by police. Alexander Postell, 15, was identified as her son.

Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville released a statement Thursday afternoon confirming that Postell was a cadet at the school and that grief counselors were on hand as administrators informed the Corps of Cadets of the tragic news.

Police are still investigating the shooting’s motive.
