A seven-year-old boy from Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away after catching on fire in a backyard alleyway while attempting to play with matches and gasoline with his friend.

At 6.20 p.m. on Saturday, Kaisen Dam and his nine-year-old friend had used matches and gasoline to melt a fence near Gillespie Avenue and Navajo Street when Kaisen caught on fire.

As the flames engulfed the yard, neighbors heard the children screaming and ran to help. Kaisen was transported to Primary Children’s Hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries and died.

The melted fence, charred branches, and blackened grass can all be seen in clips from the scene.

The investigation into the fatal fire is still ongoing by the Salt Lake City Police Department.
