A frightening morning for a household in Houston when a stranger refused to leave their front porch and shots were fired moments later.

The shooting occurred at home in the 2500 block of Joyful Forest Drive in the Breckenridge Forest Subdivision. Off-camera, ABC13 news anchor Erica Simon spoke to the homeowner involved, who stated that she was still processing everything that occurred Thursday morning shortly after 6 a.m.

The woman stated that she was getting her children ready for school when she discovered a man on her front porch who she did not know.

That is when the woman, according to Harris County sheriff’s deputies, dialed 911. She informed operators that the man would not move. According to reports, doorbell security video shows the woman continually asking the man to leave.

She did eventually come outside. According to deputies, while she was holding the man at gunpoint, she called family members for assistance. When the man refused to leave, the homeowner fired her weapon, investigators said.

According to deputies, the mom shot the guy four to six times. The woman’s boyfriend, who lives in the area, arrived and reportedly fired his gun as well.

The man was transported to a hospital and needs to undergo surgery. His state of health and identity are unclear. He is believed to be between the ages of 45 and 50, according to investigators.

There are still numerous unanswered questions regarding why the man was at the residence in the first place. It is unknown whether he was mistakenly at the residence or was drunk or high at the time of the shooting.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office will review the case for potential charges.  According to deputies, the mother and her children were not harmed.
