Police have charged her husband with murder after a 24-year-old woman was stabbed multiple times in front of a young child at her Waterbury home.
At 10:19 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to the area of Willow Street and Roseland Avenue to investigate an assault complaint and discovered Moesha Watson, 24.
Police said firefighters returning from a call saw a woman in the road and realized she needed medical help during a news conference on Wednesday. Watson was later pronounced dead by medical personnel.
The home had been the scene of a domestic violence incident, according to police.
Watson’s husband, Ainsley Panton, 28, is charged with murder and multiple counts of risk of injury to a minor, according to authorities.
Panton is being treated for a heart condition in the hospital, and police say they’re working with the state’s attorney to get him arraigned.
According to police, a 3-year-old and a 5-year-old were at home when Watson was killed, and two school-aged children also live in the residence and were at school when Watson was killed.
According to police, the family was new to the area.
Watson’s family stated the mother of 3 was originally from Jamaica and was nearly completing her nursing school in the United States. Panton and she married last year, according to them.
Grand Care Companions, Watson’s former employer, issued the following statement following her death:
“Moesha worked for our company several years ago. This is a senseless tragedy and our hearts go out to all who love her,” said Chet Doheny, the company’s CEO.
