The Olympian reported that the Benton County Jail has been offering ramen noodles, one of its most highly regarded commissary products, to inmates who sign up for their first COVID shot.
According to Scott Souza, chief of corrections for the Benton County Corrections Department, the jail will have distributed 900 parcels of noodle soup to nearly 90 inmates by Monday.
It’s promoted to inmates throughout the jail with leaflets that feature a HUGE photo of the seasoned, wavy soup and janky headline that reads SOUPS FOR SHOTS.
“To encourage and support COVID vaccination efforts, the Benton County Department of Corrections will be providing each inmate that starts their vaccination series with 10 FREE RAMEN NOODLE SOUPS!!!” say posters around the jail in Kennewick, Wash.
Any inmate, regardless of length of stay, is eligible for the program if they have not yet been vaccinated, according to FOX12.
According to Healthline, ramen noodles are a high-sodium food. Consuming too much sodium can negatively impact your health and has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease, stomach cancer and stroke.
