A Florida woman appeared in court for the first time in connection with her husband’s murder on Sunday.
According to WPTV, Joan Burke, 61, was arrested on Feb. 11 after she allegedly stabbed her husband, Melvin Weller, 61, more than 140 times.
According to police, they received the call from Weller’s stepson, Ricardo Anthony Green, 41, when Green returned home from work and discovered Weller lying on the floor with blood all around him.
Blood was found on the walls, cabinets, and kitchen counters, according to authorities. Additionally, they said, numerous knives and a meat cleaver were discovered in the kitchen sink.
Burke was discovered lying silently in her master bedroom, according to police.
Burke’s hands had lacerations, which police say is frequent among stabbing suspects.
Apart from the countless stab wounds, an autopsy revealed that Weller also suffered a fractured cranium, believed to have been caused by a strike from the meat cleaver.
Burke remains in custody on a charge of first-degree murder.
