Authorities in Texas confirmed that a 15-year-old girl died after jumping out of a moving vehicle on a freeway during a disagreement with her mom.

The event occurred on Monday about 8 p.m. near 16827 North Freeway in Harris County.

According to reports, the teen was arguing with her mom when she chose to unlock the car door and leap out the passenger side.

According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, the 15-year-old was then probably hit by another car that left the area, but deputies state they have no eyewitnesses.

A motorist who was traveling right behind the vehicle carrying the mother and daughter told investigators that they swerved to miss hitting the teenager when she leapt onto the highway.

At the scene, the 15-year-old girl was declared dead. As of Tuesday morning, she had not been identified.
