A Marine Corps veteran died only days before his 74th birthday after being beaten up by attackers in Chicago while attempting to steal his automobile.

Keith Cooper, 73, survived two combat deployments in Vietnam as a Marine before being slain in broad daylight . Around 12:30 p.m., two individuals started demanding Cooper’s car and then assaulted him, repeatedly beating him in the head, according to police.

According to NBC15, despite the attempts of witnesses to fend off the assailants, Cooper did not survive. According to his relatives, his heart was unable to withstand the strain, and he was declared dead at the hospital after having a heart attack.

According to police, two individuals have been taken into custody and are being interrogated about the assault. They thank the witnesses with assisting them in locating the criminals so swiftly.
