After traveling to Tijuana for liposuction and other treatments on the same day and being treated by the same doctor, one American woman died and two others became critically ill.

Dr. Jesus Manuel Baez Lopez performed the operations on the three women on January 29th, enticing them from California with the assurance of low-cost surgeries.

According to his site at the Arte Siluette clinic, Baez is only skilled at cosmetic surgery and is not a plastic surgeon.

When her liposuction and tummy tuck went horribly wrong, Keuana Weaver, a 38-year-old Long Beach mother of two, died on the operating table. Kanisha Davis, a nurse, had the same operations and was left with hemorrhaging and a hematoma, necessitating two weeks in a Pomona clinic.

Esmeralda Iniguez, the third woman Baez operated that same day, had to be transported across the border to Chula Vista due to septic shock.

Iniguez was admitted to the hospital again during April after her injuries became re-infected.

Weaver’s treatments cost $6,700; in San Diego, a tummy tuck itself costs more than $8,000. Her final Facebook post, on January 22, read: ‘This year is so personal. Anything that makes me happy I’m doing it!!!!’
