Frankie Lons, Keyshia Cole’s biological mother, passed away on her birthday after a decades-long battle with addiction, according to TMZ.

According to the R&B singer’s brother, Sam, Frankie overdosed at her Oakland home over the weekend, the very same day she was enjoying her birthday, when she supposedly took the drugs while partying, relapsing on what has been a hard-fought journey to sobriety.

Cole revealed last year that Lons, who battled with illicit substances on and off, went into rehab and would’ve been there for 30 days in February. She hoped that her mother would be able to get sober and be as clean as possible for her children, according to Essence.

Their family situation is one that Keyshia videotaped for reality TV on BET, with the main story being “Keyshia Cole My New Life,” on which Frankie appeared frequently and where the mom and daughter duo shared many tough and touching moments.
