Vanessa’s lawyer is attempting to establish that Kobe never agreed to take care of her mother Sofia Laine for the rest of her life, according to court records acquired by Radar.
Sofia sued Kobe’s estate and her daughter in civil court last year. Sofia testified in court that before his death, Kobe pledged to pay her debts for the rest of her life.
After Kobe’s terrible death, Sofia claimed Vanessa cut her off. She claimed to have spent 18 years assisting Vanessa and her husband in raising their children.
She accused her daughter of failing to provide her with enough meals and rest breaks, as well as failing to pay her overtime.
“Unfortunately, Kobe Bryant’s promises did not see the light of day as he is now deceased, and Vanessa Bryant took each and every step she could to void and cancel all of Kobe Bryant’s promises made to [Laine]. Vanessa Bryant did not intend to honor any of the Bryants’ representations, agreements, and promises at any stage,” her suit read.
She ended with, “This lawsuit is frivolous, disgraceful, and unimaginably hurtful. My husband never promised my mother anything, and he would be so disappointed in her behavior and lack of empathy.”
Vanessa is asking an instant dismissal of all claims made against her.
