A former Lyft driver faces vehicular manslaughter charges after police say he fell asleep at the wheel and killed his passenger.
Andy Van Pham, 30, was detained on Wednesday, a day after Orange County Superior Court issued an arrest warrant. The warrant was issued after a Tustin police investigation into the deadly crash.
On April 4, about 7 a.m., the car accident occurred near Jamboree Road and Patriot Way in Tustin. According to investigators, the Lyft driver – later identified as Pham – fell asleep at the wheel while cruising with a passenger. According to investigators, the vehicle collided with a light pole, causing catastrophic injuries to the passenger, who died.
“After an extensive investigation by the Tustin Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team, it was determined the driver, 30-year-old Andy Van Pham was driving with negligence, resulting in the death of the victim,” a police statement said.
The passenger’s identity has not been revealed. Pham is being held on $10,000 bail.
