The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Thursday that a call led to the arrest of a man accused in a brutal assault on an elderly Lyft driver that was recorded on video.

Authorities said 26-year-old Dandre Powell was taken into custody during a traffic stop. Deputies said he was armed during the arrest.

The incident occurred at 9:20 p.m. at the Arco station between Rush Street and Rosemead Boulevard, just after Paul Liao completed washing his car and was waiting for his next Lyft trip.

The suspect is shown in the video sliding into the backseat of the vehicle, grabbing Liao’s phone, and forcing him to give up his $1,500 in cash.
