A giant, 11-foot alligator snatched and killed a victim from a South Carolina pond Friday. One local claimed the victim was taken while cutting the grass all around pond that their homeowners’ association had failed to cut.

Horry County firefighters were called to the Myrtle Beach Golf and Yacht Club for a pond incident.

By 11.45am, authorities determined that an alligator had grabbed a neighbor and fled back to a neighboring retention pond, said spokeswoman Mikayla Moskov.

Horry County police say the victim was near the pond when he was pulled in and removed from it when they arrived.

South Carolina DNR and its alligator removal service euthanized the animal on scene.

The unknown victim’s death is under investigation, and the coroner’s office will release more details on Monday.

In a statement, police said: ‘Our hearts go out to the family and community members impacted by this tragic incident.’
