The man who fatally shot Jacqueline Avant — wife of entertainment legend Clarence Avant — will more than likely be sentenced to life in prison for her murder.

Aariel Maynor pleaded guilty Thursday to the December murder of the 81-year-old philanthropist, according to Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón. As you recall, Maynor broke into the Avants’ Beverly Hills home in the middle of the night and began firing with a “assault long barrel pistol” when he encountered Jacqueline. He also fired at a security guard but missed.

Jacqueline was rushed to the hospital but died as a result of her injuries.

Maynor will be sentenced on March 30, according to the D.A., and the judge has the authority to sentence him to 170 years to life in prison. Additionally, he will be ineligible for parole.

Maynor was apprehended approximately an hour after the Avant murder when he tried to break into a Hollywood Hills residence and shot himself in the foot.

The audacious and vicious crime sent ripples through Hollywood, as the Avants have been admired and cherished in the entertainment industry for decades.

Their daughter, Nicole, is married to Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos, and their son, Alex, is a CAA consultant – and Clarence, dubbed the “godfather of Black music,” was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
