While in California in November 2020, Tiffani Hill won $2 million on a scratch-off lottery ticket. Hill married John Donato and moved to Calera, Oklahoma, a few months after winning the lottery.

Tiffani Hill, 31, her husband, John Donato, 42, and their daughter, Leanne, were discovered with gunshots to the head in their Calera, Oklahoma, home on July 30, according to local news outlet KXII.

The shooting left three other children in the house unharmed.

Because the presumed murder-suicide occurred on tribal land and Hill was a member of the Choctaw Nation, the FBI, rather than local police, is leading the investigation.

The lottery winnings were a source of contention, according to Theresa McGehee, the Hill family’s attorney. Hill’s family believes she was a victim of domestic abuse who was attempting to leave an abusive relationship, according to them.

“Tiffani never reached out to me about anything of that nature, but I did speak with her mom. And her mom wants the message that Tiffani was trying to get away from it,” McGehee told KXII.

“Could that have sparked that argument? We’ll never have any way of knowing. But I do know there were times it caused conflict between them.”

Her family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral costs.
