On video, a police officer in a small eastern New Mexico town is seen slamming a man he’s trying to arrest to the pavement. The man’s family claims that the officer used excessive force, but he remains on the job for the time being.

43-year-old Pete Apodaca can be seen in handcuffs as officers place him in the back seat of a cruiser when he seems to to flee. The officer can also be seen quickly grabbing him, lifting him up, and slamming him to the pavement in the video.

Vanessa Apodaca, Apodaca’s wife, told KRQE that her husband suffered fractured ribs and possibly a broken collarbone during the incident. She thinks that the officer in question should be removed from the streets.
