Police in Hawaii say that after an argument on a highway, the estranged husband, a Marine, fatally stabbed the pregnant woman.

Drivers on the H-3 highway allegedly saw Dana Alotaibi, 27, being stabbed many times on Wednesday by her ex-husband, according to Honolulu Police.

Deena Thoemmes, lieutenant of the Honolulu Police Department’s criminal investigation branch, said during a press conference on Thursday that the witnesses “observed a male standing over a female, stabbing her multiple times.”

“It has been determined that the victim and the male were married, and had recently been going through marital problems,” Thoemmes said. “At the time of the incident, they were arguing before he stabbed her multiple times that caused her fatal injuries.”

Witnesses tried to intervene and help Alotaibi, but the suspect took off running.

When cops approached him, the suspect stabbed himself with the same knife, which allowed police to capture him. He was taken to a hospital, where he is still being held.

The hospital also admitted Alotaibi, who was later declared deceased.

The suspect has not yet been formally charged, but the HPD and the Department of the Prosecutors’ Office domestic violence unit are seeking to add charges against him.
