Mary J. Blige, the queen of hip-hop soul, has been admitted into the Apollo Theater Walk of Fame. Mary J., a nine-time Grammy winner, was inducted into the Apollo Walk of Fame on Friday morning.

Blige made her television debut on Showtime  At The Apollo in 1992, and went on to perform several more sold-out performances there.

According to the rumor mill, she began recording her first demo tape at a karaoke machine established in the Galleria Mall in Westchester. According to Blige, her demo tape wound up in the correct hands, and she quickly received her first recording contract.

Thank you so much @apollotheater for this amazing honor for the Walk of Fame. The first time I hit the @apollotheater stage I was singing background for @therealjeffredd and rest is history……. #apollowalkoffame
