According to Deadline, Blige will produce the film alongside Lifetime under her Blue Butterfly production company.

Sonja Warfield and Rachel Ingram’s coming-of-age romantic drama will accompany a young woman who is attending college for the first time in Upstate Ny and manages to find herself juggling her studies and having a relationship with one of her classmates.

However, with disapproving parents, financial woes, and important coursework deadlines, the young couple quickly discovers the true meaning of true love.

I wrote “Real Love” based on my real-life experiences and my fans connected to it in a deeply personal way,” said Blige in a press release. “It’s exciting to now use this song and my music to create a new story by way of film, continuing to build on a pillar of the foundation of my production company, Blue Butterfly. My passions for acting and music now include developing diverse stories with music as the backdrop. I am grateful to Lifetime for their partnership in the story of Real Love.“

This is not the first time the award-winning entertainer has collaborated with the network; most recently, in 2021, she executive produced Mary J. Blige’s My Life.

In 2020, she executive produced The Clark Sisters: The First Ladies of Gospel for Lifetime alongside Queen Latifah and Missy Elliott, who also served as Executive Producers. In 2013, Blige co-starred with Angela Bassett in the Lifetime civil rights movie adaptation Betty & Coretta as Dr. Betty Shabazz.

Real Love has not yet been given a release date.
