According to police, an assistant manager at a Florida Dollar Tree was apprehended Monday after staging a robbery with her 15-year-old son in order to steal from the store.
According to the Clearwater Police Department, Melisha Ford, 37, of Clearwater, was assigned to gather cash revenue at the Highland Avenue store after it closed as component of her job. She was then supposed to place the cash in a money bag and transfer into a bank’s lock box.
However, the deposits were never received by the bank between August 13 and August 15. The Dollar Tree district manager noticed this, according to police, and arranged a meeting with Ford and loss prevention to discuss the matter.
According to the arrest affidavit, Ford then did it again on August 19 and 20.
According to police, on Aug. 21, she set up a heist by having her 15-year-old son rob her with a Pellet gun when she closed the store to pocket the day’s profits. She then called 911 to report the bogus robbery.
Ford did admit to stealing the cash and orchestrating the robbery, according to Clearwater police. According to the affidavit, she stole over $5,000 in her scheme.
