After being recorded on film punching a lady who said she simply wanted to use the restroom, a Dolton gas station employee has been charged with aggravated battery.

According to Dolton village officials, Richard Williams, an employee of the Shell petrol station on Sibley Boulevard and Lincoln Avenue, has been charged with aggravated battery-strangulation, aggravated battery in a public place of accommodation, and unlawful restraint.

Protests outside the gas station were triggered by video obtained exclusively by CBS 2, prompting it to close early on Wednesday.

Protesters urged that the gas station be permanently closed and that the owners apologize to the neighborhood after learning that others had warned about Williams in the prior.

The footage of the attack contains graphic content.
