New warrants in the case of a mom charged with murdering her 4-year-old daughter uncover troubling details.
Majelic Young died last year, but her body wasn’t discovered until May 2021, according to law enforcement.
Police responded to a call from a social worker and discovered Majelic’s body buried in the backyard of a home in Charlotte, NC.
Those arrest warrants reveal heartbreaking details about the girl’s final moments, including how authorities suspect her mom, Malikah Bennett, murdered her and then tried to conceal it.
Majelic’s 13-year-old sister told investigators that Majelic was required to stand in the laundry room as punishment in August 2020 and was not allowed to sit down or leave, according to the warrant. She had a bowel movement in her pants afterwards.
She remained there for three days, until she became too weak to stand and tumbled out the back door, striking her head on the pavement. Majelic’s sister said her breathing was on and off the day she perished, and she told detectives that was the day she died.
She said that her mother washed up Majelic’s body and placed it in two black plastic bags, and then put it in the trunk of her SUV where it stayed for about five days.
Finally, she told police that Bennett dug a hole and had her help put Majelic’s body in it and cover her up with dirt.
