New York Federal Judge Rejects R. Kelly's Request To Go Free

In New York, a federal judge has refused R. Kelly’s appeal to be released from jail because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the singer’s lawyers have not proven that he is at high risk of catching the virus behind bars.

Kelly, 53, has been held in the Metropolitan Correctional Center since his imprisonment in Chicago and New York last July on federal charges. In motions filed in court in both Chicago and New York last month, Kelly’s lawyers alleged the singer was afraid to contract the novel coronavirus given the close quarters at downtown federal prison.
