Officials in South Carolina have apprehended an 18-year-old in connection with the murder of a Newark peace activist’s teenage daughter, who went missing in early April.

Deputies from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department arrested Treveon Nelson near Leesville, South Carolina, on Friday and said he would be charged with murder. Sanaa Amenhotep, 15, was shot to death, according to the police department.

In the active investigation into Sanaa’s death, a juvenile girl was also arrested, but her identity and charges were not released by Lexington County authorities. Authorities in South Carolina’s Richland County previously announced the arrest of another minor, a 17-year-old male, on kidnapping charges.

“My first heir Sanaa Mahari Amenhotep I can’t believe she gone from us,” her father wrote on Facebook alongside a series of family images.

“You shattered the hearts of my entire family the pain I will never be the same,” wrote Amenhotep.

“I’m sorry Princess I didn’t protect u,” he added. “I promise u will never ever leave my heart or mind … I would lay down my life for u … I love u so much.”
