What should have been a beautiful day for these Denver parents turned into misery at the birth of their newborn baby girl due to a botched C-Section.

Immediately after birth, the newborn had to receive 13 stitches to seal the gash on her face. Damarqus Williams, the father, told WGNTV, “It’s upsetting; she’s not comfortable.”

The newborn baby girl, Kyanni Williams, was born at Denver Health Medical Center in Colorado.

Her parents told the WGNTV that the plan was to deliver their daughter naturally, until complications arose because the doctor’s could not locate the baby’s heartbeat.

“They gave me a pill to speed up my labor, and a few minutes after that, I was being rushed into an emergency C-section,” the mother, Reazjhana Williams said.

“They said her face was close to the placenta wall,” Williams told the outlet.

In a statement to WGNTV, Denver Health said: “Denver Health has been in touch with the family directly. While this is a known medical complication in emergency C-sections, our focus is always on providing care in the best interest of the mother and child. At Denver Health, the safety and well-being of our patients is our number one priority.”

Investigations have shown that fetal lacerations are uncommon. A 2004 study of almost 3,000 cesarean deliveries published in The American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology discovered only 97 cases of unintentional fetal lacerations.

The family set up a GoFundMe campaign to gather funds to hire a lawyer and investigate their legal options.
