No Felony Charges for Man Who Attacked Dave Chappelle, DA Says

Although Dave Chappelle’s attacker appears to have committed a crime, the district attorney believes that will not be enough to charge him with a felony.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday that it has turned over the case to the city attorney, adding, “After reviewing the evidence, prosecutors determined that, while criminal conduct occurred, the evidence presented did not constitute felony conduct.”

LAPD sources told TMZ that when they submitted their findings, they pushed for a felony charge, but the D.A. obviously disagreed. There has been a brewing conflict between the LAPD and Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón, who has decided not to prosecute cases that have traditionally been prosecuted.

Following the attack, Isaiah Lee was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon. According to law enforcement sources, he rushed the stage, brandishing a replica gun with a knife attached to the barrel.

Dave’s team swarmed the attacker, restraining him and manhandled him in the process.

Shortly after the attack behind The Hollywood Bowl, the attacker was seen being loaded into an ambulance and his face was severely damaged and his arm appeared to be a ‘pretzel.’
