Sumter County’s Sheriff’s Office has arrested three adults and placed several juveniles in the custody of the Department of Social Services after a video surfaced of the children abusing an elderly relative in the care of their parents, ABC Columbia reported.

On Thursday, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of a “disturbing” video that shows “an egregious assault” on an elderly person by juveniles, according to Sheriff Anthony Dennis.
After receiving the video from a family member, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office launched an immediate investigation into the alleged attack.
An elderly aunt was left alone with multiple children for days at a time by a 46-year-old man, John McGregor, Jr. in Sumter County, according to Sumter County deputies.
According to Sumter County deputies, another family member, Malika White, was present when the children ‘physically abused and repeatedly assaulted’ the woman identified as the grandmother in the video.
According to deputies, White even recorded the beating but never intervened to stop the children. Matter of fact, authorities allege that White commanded one of the juveniles to retrieve a large pot from the kitchen and attack the grandmother with it in at least one instance.
John McGregor, Jr., 46, Darnesha Sanders, 27, and Malika White, 26, have all been charged with Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor and Abuse of a Vulnerable Adult. According to authorities, all of the juveniles involved in the incident are now in the custody of the Department of Social Services.
Sheriff Anthony Dennis issued a statement regarding the incident, in which he stated:
“This is one of the most disturbing videos I have seen in my career. It was extremely difficult to watch and I am appalled at the actions of all parties in the video. This incident will be investigated fully by my agency and all parties will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.“
