According to Miami-Dade police, a mother was charged with child neglect after her 6-year-old daughter was admitted to the hospital and tested positive for multiple substances.

Nyla Evans, 24, was arrested when her daughter tested positive for cocaine, marijuana, and benzodiazepines at Jackson North hospital in North Miami Beach, according to WPLG. Paramedics took her to the hospital about 12:25 a.m. on Monday.

According to the arrest record, the girl informed officers she had spent the day at home with her mom.

Evans allegedly told authorities that she fed her daughter lunch at 3 p.m., and three hours later she began to slur her words and drag her feet. She admitted to authorities that she uses marijuana but does not do so in front of her daughter. She said she had no idea how the child tested positive for narcotics.

According to the police report, Evans put her kid to bed because she “looked tired.” She allegedly then gave her daughter milk and kept her in the bathroom about 10:30 p.m. because she “thought she got into rat poison.”
