After confessing to killing her and throwing her 2-year-old son over a bridge and leaving him to die, the boyfriend of a missing pregnant woman was arrested for murder, WBRZ reports.
Brynnen Murphy, 20, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder. On Tuesday, a judge ordered that he be held in jail without bond. Police have stated that he will most likely face feticide charges as well.
Police said Murphy told them where he dumped the bodies of Kaylen Johnson, 24, and her son Kaden, prompting searches in two different East Baton Rouge neighborhoods early Monday afternoon.
Kaylen was discovered around noon in a wooded area near Gardere Lane on Burbank Drive. Her son’s body was discovered not long after along the Central Thruway, south of Frenchtown Road. Both bodies were believed to have been dumped about a week ago, according to authorities.
Kaylen Johnson was shot multiple times, according to the coroner’s report following an autopsy on Tuesday.
According to WBRZ sources Murphy admitted to gunning down Kaylen in the parking lot of his North Harrells Ferry Road apartment complex. Murphy is then said to have dumped the gun in the same forested area where Kaylen was discovered. Kaden, Kaylen’s son, was reportedly in the vehicle when his mother was gunned down and Murphy dumped her body.
Murphy drove to the Central Thruway after disposing of his girlfriend’s body and the murder weapon, where he threw Kaden, who was still alive, over the bridge. According to WBRZ, Murphy heard Kaden cry as he drove away.
The coroner determined that the child died as a result of hypothermia during a preliminary autopsy, but further investigation is underway.
Murphy abandoned Kaylen’s vehicle near his apartment off North Harrells Ferry after throwing the child over the bridge.
