Authorities say fentanyl was found hidden inside the pregnant teen’s vagina as she tried to enter the United States.
Authorities say the pregnant 16-year-old was one of three female drug traffickers recently detained on the Texas-Mexico border while attempting the ruse.
According to CBP, a 19-year-old US citizen was flagged for additional inspection at the border on March 2. By her own free will and consent, she removed the condom containing 0.26 pounds of fentanyl, according to the agency.
“It is tragic that people are willing to put themselves in these dangerous situations,” said CBP El Paso director of field operations Hector A. Mancha in a statement. “This synthetic opioid is so powerful that if a package were to rupture inside the body, the consequences could be life-threatening.”
On February 28, a drug-sniffing K-9 alerted authorities to a 42-year-old US woman trying to come into the country at El Paso’s Paso Del Norte International Bridge. She confessed to having drugs in her system and extracted a 0.293-pound bundle from her vagina.
On February 24, an American woman, 31, was also apprehended at the Ysleta Port of Entry. Agents discovered something in the woman’s private area after performing a pat-down search on her. According to officials, she had .394 pounds of the drug in her vaginal cavity.
