R. Kelly appeared in person for the first time in a Brooklyn federal courtroom ahead of his July 8 trial. According to Page Six, the 54-year-old stood alongside his new legal team, Deveraux Cannick and Nicole Blank Becker, as they requested that he be released on bail once more, which Judge Ann Donnelly denied.

Kelly’s trial will begin on August 18, 2021, according to Judge Donnelly, giving him a little more than a month to review his case with his new lawyers.

After being arrested in Chicago by Homeland Security officials and New York Police Department public safety officers, R. Kelly was indicted in July 2019.

According to the U. S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, he is charged with federal child pornography, kidnapping, obstruction of justice, and racketeering in New York.
