Prosecutors said a grand jury indicted a Burke County man on a murder charge in connection with the disappearance of 41-year-old Deidre Reid, a missing mother in South Carolina.

A Chesterfield County grand jury indicted Emanuel Bedford on both murder and kidnapping charges Thursday morning, according to Solicitor Will Rogers, according to WDRW.

The indictment revealed substantial new developments in the CSRA, such as Reid’s car being discovered with blood in it in Aiken County and pieces of the bumper being discovered on Bedford’s family land in Burke County.

Bedford had previously been charged in connection with Reid’s disappearance with grand larceny and obstruction of justice.

According to the solicitor, he is set to return to court during the week of April 4 to be arraigned.

Reid was reported missing from Pageland, South Carolina, on September 3, 2021. Her family had last heard from her on the same day, when she was on her way to the Greyhound station in Charlotte with Bedford.

Reid, according to relatives, was driving Bedford to the bus station. They also claim he never boarded a bus.

She was driving a gray 2004 Chevy Tahoe with the license plate FXU718 from South Carolina. The front of the car was emblazoned with a New York Giants logo.

Reid’s family came to the Augusta area, knowing Bedford was from Burke County, to distribute leaflets about her sudden disappearance. The CSRA’s police agencies released bulletins alerting the public to be on the lookout for her.

The Burke County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia then took Bedford into custody on Oct. 11 before extraditing him back to Pageland to face the charges.

He was initially named as a person of interest in the investigation. Reid’s car was discovered on September 5 in Aiken County, according to the prosecution.

According to the prosecutor, the car was discovered 11 miles away from Emmanuel Bedford’s home. Parts of the bumper were also discovered on Bedford’s family’s property in Burke County.

The SLED and Pageland PD collaborated with the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office to locate the missing vehicle.

According to the prosecutor, when law enforcement arrived at the scene, they discovered blood in the passenger seat. According to the solicitor, evidence discovered during the investigation led to the indictments on Thursday.
