Sean “Diddy” Combs will be honored with a lifetime achievement award at the BET Awards in 2022, according to Billboard.
For the nd2 year in a row, Taraji P. Henson will host the event, which will broadcast live on BET on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET/PT from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
Combs is only the 2nd person to receive the lifetime achievement award who rose to prominence as a hip hop artist. He succeeds Queen Latifah, who won the award last year. Since 2001, the award has been given every year except one. (There was no award in 2020 due to the pandemic.)
“Diddy has always been a pioneering force in our community, breaking barriers, achieving unprecedented heights, blazing new trails, and, in so doing, raising the bar for all of us,” BET CEO Scott Mills said in a statement.
“His virtuosity is matched only by his range – from music to media, culture, business, and philanthropy. …We are delighted to have this opportunity to use our biggest stage to recognize the extraordinary accomplishments of our friend Diddy.”
