The moment the apartment building partially collapsed in Surfside, a suburb outside Miami, was recorded on security camera video from a neighboring condominium.

According to Raide Jadallah, assistant fire chief for Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, 35 people were rescued from the structure and two were retrieved from the rubble.

According to FOX46, Sally Heyman of the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners, stated 51 occupants who were assumed to be in the apartment at the time of the disaster were unaccounted for by mid-morning – although some might not have been at home.

“I just can’t put into words, it looks like a bomb hit, it looks like something in one of these ‘Third World’ countries that just literally collapsed, like a pancake straight down, and there’s just an incredible pile of rubble,” one witness told NBC 6.
