According to investigators, a Florida woman gunned down an intruder who broke into her bedroom.

Tuesday at 8:45 a.m., police in Clearwater received a 911 call about an intruder in the 1600 block of Flagler Drive.

The woman reported that she awoke to discover a man in her bedroom.

She revealed to officers that the man attempted to attack her, but she was able to secure a gun and start shooting him.

Chief of Police of Clearwater, Dan Slaughter, stated that the woman called 911 during the attack, and the dispatcher could hear the fight before the woman was able to retrieve her weapon.

“She was able to use that gun to defend herself, and fired one shot which resulted in the death of that intruder,” Slaughter said.

Upon preliminary investigation, it would seem to be a straightforward case of self-defense, the chief told reporters, adding that the victim legally purchased the firearm.

The suspect, identified as Justin William Wright, age 26, was pronounced dead at the scene. According to Slaughter, the victim lived next door to Wright.

According to investigators, the victim’s injuries were consistent with a tussle and the assault she described to police.

Police have stated that it is unknown how Wright entered the residence.
