Shooting at Indiana Nightclub Leaves 2 Dead & 4 Wounded

The two people killed in an early Sunday morning shooting at a nightclub in Gary, Indiana, have been identified. Four other people were injured in the incident.

Police were dispatched to Playo’s Night Club in the 1700 block of Rant Street around 1:57 a.m. for reports of shots fired.

Officers arrived to find a man, 34, non responsive near the entranceway with gunshot wounds. Gary Medics took him to Methodist Hospital Northlake, where he was declared dead. A 26-year-old woman was also discovered unresponsive inside the nightclub and was taken to the hospital, where she was declared dead.

According to the Lake County Coroner’s Office, they are Jonte Dorsey of Joliet and Jah’Nice Quinn of Merrillville.

According to eyewitness accounts, someone fired from outside the club, hitting Dorsey before entering and continuing to fire.

During the shooting, four other people were injured. One of the gunshot victims is critically injured, while the other three appear to have non-life threatening injuries. According to police, the shooting victims were taken to several hospitals in the area.

Due to the large number of injured people and the large crowd that had to be evacuated, additional agencies were called in.
