‘This is the coolest night of my life. I’m talking to Will Smith, Chris Rock just got up on stage…’
Saturday Night Live mocked the dreaded Oscar slap in a sketch depicting an ecstatic seat filler at the celebration.
On Saturday (2 April), Saturday Night Live host Jerrod Carmichael and actor Kyle Mooney acted as seat fillers, while performer Chris Redd parodied Will Smith in a parody of the Chris Rock-Smith conflict.
Redd’s Smith is shown in the sketch sitting down when Carmichael approaches him.
“I don’t want to sound corny but you’re my hero, man,” Carmichael says. “This is the coolest night of my life. I’m talking to Will Smith, Chris Rock just got up on stage. Can I get a selfie real quick?”
Smith complies, and as the seat filler prepares to take a photograph, Redd’s Smith says, “I’ll be right back, man,” and walks away.
Soon afterwards, a slap is heard in the distance, indicating that the seat filler is noticeably taken aback by what he has just witnessed.
Redd continues to converse with both seat fillers despite their apparent discomfort speaking with him.
Redd reclaims his seat and resumes his conversation with Carmichael’s seat filler as if nothing happened. He does, however, pause halfway through to scream, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth!”
