The death toll from a partial building collapse in Surfside, Florida, has risen to at least 78, according to Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava at a news conference on Friday. This news comes after emergency personnel declared earlier this week that they would transition from rescuing to recovery mode operations.

Of the 78 people that died, 47 have been identified as casualties. According to Levine Cava, another 62 persons are missing.

Although rescue attempts have finished, Mayor Charles Burkett stated on Thursday that officials remain dedicated to finding all those who are still missing and reconnecting them with their families.
