Texas Man Robbed a Bank in Loaner Car From Dealership

Prosecutors said that a Texas man was sentenced to 20 years in prison after robbing a bank in a car loaned to him from a dealership and then trying to use the cash as a down payment on a BMW.

According to KTVT, the US Attorney for the Northern District of Texas said Eric Dion Warren, 50, entered an AIM Bank in Wolfforth, Texas, about 12:45 p.m. on June 7, 2019 and handed a note demanding cash to a teller.

“This is a (expletive) robbery. Play with me and die,” the note read. “I want $10,000 in 50 and 100 dollar bills now you got 1 minute or I will kill you.”

Prosecutors said Warren had took out what seemed to be a handgun.

The teller did as they were told, handing Warren money from the drawer, as well as stacks of $20 bills with registered serial numbers. The teller put the money in his bag. Warren said, “Don’t press any buttons,” and he fled.

Warren then sped away from the bank in a vehicle that a car dealership had lent him as they negotiated the purchase of a BMW. Warren returned to the dealer in the borrowed car about 15 minutes after the robbery.

He went into the BMW dealership’s finance department and handed about  $3,000 in cash as a down payment.

The police called the dealership while Warren was in the finance office. An employee noticed that the vehicle identified in the robbery was the same one Warren had borrowed.

Warren was caught with $5,086 in cash when the cops arrived. The serial numbers corresponded to the cash that had gone missing from the bank.

In August 2020, Warren pleaded guilty to bank robbery and was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Tuesday.
