Authorities in Southeast Texas arrested Pedro Serrano, 33, this week after he appeared at the sheriff’s office to request protection after allegedly failing to pay a drug supplier.

Serrano told investigators on the afternoon of June 16 that his life was in danger.

When investigators approached him, he allegedly stated that he had “a large amount of narcotics in his vehicle, which he had parked outside” the sheriff’s office.

According to the sheriff’s office, the interview revealed Serrano was seeking protection from law enforcement after failing to pay for the narcotics from a supplier.

According to officials, after the interview ended and investigators attempted to arrest Serrano for the narcotics, he started fighting them inside the interrogation room. Serrano allegedly resisted even after several investigators arrived at the interview room.

Investigators obtained and executed a search warrant for the man’s vehicle, which allegedly yielded approximately 2 pounds of methamphetamine.

Serrano was charged with having a controlled substance in his possession and resisting arrest.

“Law Enforcement is a unique career, and every day is different, as this episode clearly shows. I am thankful these narcotics landed in our lap instead of the streets or lives of our community. Fortunately, none of my Staff were injured during the struggle of trying to arrest this suspect,” said Harrison County Sheriff Brandon Fletcher.
