Prosecutor says YSL’s Gunna, Young Thug were ‘followed by snipers’

According to Billboard, Monday, a Georgia judge refused to release Gunna and Young Thug from jail following their indictment in a wide ranging criminal case against alleged Atlanta street gangs. Gunna was denied pre-trial release, while Young Thug’s release decision was postponed.

At a Monday morning hearing in Fulton County Superior Court, Judge Ural Glanville denied bond to Gunna (real name Sergio Kitchens) and set a January 2023 trial date.

The judge did not elaborate on his reasoning, but he was obviously influenced by the arguments of the prosecutors, who expressed concern about witness tampering should the rapper be released on bond.

“They are the ones directing the violence,” stated one prosecutor from the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office, referring to both Young Thug and Gunna. “They direct their troops.”

In a statement to Billboard, Gunna’s attorney Steven Sadow said:

The court was obviously concerned about threats and intimidation of witnesses. “We believe when the court hears evidence, not just the words of the prosecutor, it will find that Sergio’s release on bond will not, directly or indirectly, pose a significant risk to witnesses. We look forward to having an evidentiary hearing on this as soon as the court permits.”

Young Thug’s (real name: Jeffery Williams) bond release was not decided by Judge Glanville. Instead, the judge postponed the action so that he could first rule on the prosecutors’ statements that the rapper’s attorney, Brian Steel, should be disbarred due to a conflict of interest.

In the coming weeks, this issue will be tested in court, after which the judge will decide on bond and pretrial release.
