According to sheriff’s deputies, a 13-year-old boy was shot at a middle school in East Oakland on Monday, and the 12-year-old suspect is in custody.
On Tuesday, a shooting occurred at Madison Park Academy in the Sobrante Park neighborhood.
According to authorities, the injured student was transported to the hospital and is in critical condition. According to a 8th grader at the school, her buddy was shot in the abdomen.
“I was hanging with my friends when I heard the gunshot At the time I didn’t know it was a gunshot,” said the eighth grader. “I was sticking around until I heard my friend screaming. It turns out he was the one who got shot.”
According to initial reports, the 12-year-old suspect was on the run, but he was quickly apprehended. It’s unclear where the suspected shooter was apprehended.
Officials have not said whether the suspect was also a student at the school, which serves students in grades 6 through 12.
Officials reported that the gun used in the incident had been recovered.
