According to police, a baby girl from Maryland died after falling out of the backseat of a vehicle in Virginia and being run over.
According to Prince William County Police, they responded to the incident in Woodbridge on Sunday afternoon.
According to authorities, a 35-year-old mom from Hyattsville, Maryland, was visiting relatives with her 10-month-old daughter.
According to police, the mother drove her 2013 Toyota Highlander a small distance to a trash bin while the infant was unrestrained in the backseat. The mother then returned home to pick up more family members.
When a member of the family opened the back door, the girl tumbled out.
The mother got out to check on her child at that point, but police believe she left the car in drive. The car rolled forward and hit the baby, who subsequently died later that day.
The mother and baby are not being identified by the police. Although no charges have been filed, police say the case is still under investigation.
