According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, a father shot and killed his three children before turning the gun on himself at a church in the Arden Arcade neighborhood on Monday afternoon.
One more death has been confirmed, according to Sgt. Rod Grassman’s report. That individual chaperoning the children and accompanying them to a supervised visit with their dad, who was the focus of a restraining order by his estranged wife.
The murdered children were 9, 10, and 13 years old. So far, no one has been identified as a suspect.
The shooting was contained within the church, according to authorities. It was at The Church in Sacramento, near Wyda and Ethan Ways and Chick-fil-A by Arden Fair, where the situation took place. Around 5 p.m., a church worker who was in the building heard gunshots and fled to call for help.
According to the sheriff’s office, the incident was a domestic violence incident. There are no unidentified suspects in this shooting, according to authorities.
According to a witness who spoke to CBS13, he saw police remove one victim from the building. Ambulances couldn’t get to the scene at first because of the heavy police traffic, he stated.
Gov. Gavin Newsom issued a statement on the shooting Monday night, in which he said:
“Another senseless act of gun violence in America – this time in our backyard. In a church with kids inside. Absolutely devastating. Our hearts go out to the victims, their families and their communities. We are working closely with local law enforcement.”
