Authorities announced on Friday that an unidentified boy discovered inside a suitcase in rural Indiana last month did die from an electrolyte imbalance probably triggered by a stomach virus.

According to an autopsy report, the boy, who was believed to be 5 years old at the time of his passing, had no substantial traumatic injuries, and his blood toxicology was negative, according to a news release from the Indiana State Police.

According to the release, the child was dressed and tidy when he was placed inside a hard-shell suitcase bearing the words “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas.”

According to the release, investigators have says there is no evidence that he was alive at the time in question.

It is unclear how long he had been in the suitcase or who had placed him there.

The release stated that despite having received dozens of tips, officials were unable to identify the boy, who was described as a skinny Black boy with short hair.

According to investigators, he may be from some other state or country.

On April 16, a mushroom hunter unearthed the boy’s body in a densely wooded area of Washington County, near Kentucky.

The suitcase was approximately 80 feet from the closest road, according to authorities.
