United Airlines Passenger Opens Emergency Exit Door and Walks on Wing of Plane; Arrested

A passenger on a United Airlines flight was arrested early Thursday for opening an emergency door and sliding down the wing of a moving plane, officials said.

Flight 2478 from San Diego landed at O’Hare International Airport shortly after 4:30 a.m. and was moving slowly to the gate when the man pulled the door off and stepped onto the wing, according to the airline.

“Our ground crew stopped the individual outside of the aircraft, and the person is now with law enforcement. The plane then arrived at the gate and all passengers deplaned safely,” a United rep said in an email to the outlet.

“CPD arrived and placed him into custody. Charges are pending,” Chicago Police said.
