Video Captures Panic After 3 Shot at Hammond High Graduation in Louisiana

Thursday night in Louisiana, four people were injured in a shooting following a high school graduation, according to police.

In Hammond, Louisiana, Southeastern Louisiana State University hosted the commencement ceremony. At approximately 8:00 p.m. local time, Hammond High School students and their families were leaving the SLSU University Center, according to the authorities.

Local news outlets obtained footage of people running and screaming near the scene of the shooting.

According to Hammond police, no students were involved in the shooting. Chief of Police of Hammond, Edwin Bergeron, stated that all four victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

According to police, one suspect has been apprehended.

Two Louisiana legislators addressed the shooting on Twitter. Senator John Kennedy, a Republican, wrote, “Praying for the shooting victims and everyone affected by the violence outside Hammond High School’s graduation this evening.”

Senator Bill Cassidy, a Republican, stated that he was monitoring the situation and praying for the victims: “A night to celebrate the achievements of young men and women was disrupted by senseless violence. Monitoring the situation as more details become available and praying for the well-being of those injured.”

Trent Thomas, age 20, is accused of firing a gun into the crowd as people left the ceremony. Thomas is charged with multiple offenses, including three counts of attempted murder in the second degree.
