After slipping off the runway while landing at San Jose International Airport, a DHL cargo plane broke in half.

The crash on Thursday forced the airport to close, but the two crew members on board were reported to be unharmed.

According to the fire dept, the Boeing 757 took off from Juan Santamara Airport, just west of the capital, but returned due to a hydraulic system malfunction. According to officials, the aircraft started sliding, turned, and broke in half upon landing, exposing its cargo.

According to a DHL spokesman, both pilots were unharmed, but one was being examined by a doctor as a precaution.
